What Makes You Feel at Home: Revelation 21

Scripture Reading: Revelation 21:1-27

Key Verse:  And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. (Revelation 21:3).

The New Heaven and the New Earth are going to be incredible beyond our wild imaginations. There will be streets of gold, pearly gates, lush gardens, and a city roomy enough for all believers in Jesus Christ from all times in history.

Although new can be exciting, it also can feel unfamiliar.

Since we moved recently, the feeling of unfamiliar is still fresh in my mind. Our house is a wonderful old house with just the right sized yard and plenty of room for all our things. But I have no idea where anything is! The kids will ask me where something is and it is a long thought process and some hunting before I can answer them.

During our last move, I remember getting up the first morning to make breakfast and staring, frozen in the kitchen like a deer in headlights because I was completely overwhelmed with the unfamiliar of my surroundings. I felt that wash of uncomfortable all day long until my husband came home. I could feel my whole body relax the moment I heard his voice as he came in the door. Knowing he was there too made me feel like I belonged.

I imagine the New Heavens and New Earth will be the same way.

Although our surroundings will be unfamiliar, the very presence of Jesus Christ will be familiar to us. We know Him. He knows us. We are the bride of Christ and we belong.
