Scripture Reading: Revelation 14:14-16:21
Key Verse:
“and sang the song of God’s servant Moses and of the Lamb:
‘Great and marvelous are your deeds,
Lord God Almighty.
Just and true are your ways,
King of the nations.[c]
4 Who will not fear you, Lord,
and bring glory to your name?
For you alone are holy.
All nations will come
and worship before you,
for your righteous acts have been revealed.’ “ Revelation 15:3
These are some of the chapters of Revelation that make Christians shy away from the book. It’s hard to hear about so many plagues and wrath and judgment. We worry about whether or not we will be accidentally swept away in the judgment and our heart breaks for the people who will experience it.
What sticks out to me in these chapters are not so much the judgments, but what the believers are doing during the judgments. They are not freaking out. They are not calling for rescue because they are confident that they have already been rescued by the blood of Jesus.
The believers are worshiping.
Right after the wine press of God’s wrath and before the seven angels pour out the seven bowls of the last of the plagues, God’s people are worshiping Him. They sing about God being holy, just, and true. His acts are righteous, great, and marvelous.
In chapter 16, the angels pause after the third bowl to worship, God’s people echo their agreement:
“Yes, Lord God Almighty, true and just are your judgments.” Revelation 16:7.
You may be living in chaos.
Maybe your everyday is filled with the whirlwind of getting everyone where they need to be.
Perhaps your life was upended because you are living the consequences of your decision or someone else’s.
The presence of upheaval does not negate God’s sovereign and loving presence.
Pause to worship Him in the midst of your chaos to remind yourself of God’s unchanging power and protection over His people.

Hi Rachel! I tend to automatically sing Psalm 46 (The Corner Room version is wonderful!) when I’m struggling with a fearful or stressful situation, and it’s amazing how quickly I begin to feel the Lord’s peace and comfort fill me.
I never heard of this particular song so I looked it up and listened to it. Wow, I love how it is straight scripture, but very singable! Thanks for sharing!
Hello Rachel,
“How Great Thou Are” always works for me.
